MATSYA PURANA STORY OF MANU According to Hindu mythology , the Matsya Purana , is one of the eighteen major Puranas . According to the text , Matsya is the first avatar of Hindu God Vishnu , in the form of a giant fish . The text describes the tale of a great flood , where Matsya is described to have rescued the first man , Manu . Matsya forewarns Manu about an impending catastrophic flood . He orders him to collect all the grains of the world , all living creatures as well as Sapta rishis (the seven sages ) .When t he flood destroys the world , Vasuki appeared as rope , to fasten the boat with the horn of the giant fish . Matsya pulls the boat to safety & rescued Manu , accompanied by the seven great sages . Hence,The great Manu is known as progenitor of current humanity .
